Tiger Woods, the 15-time golf major champion, is released on bail following his arrest on charges of driving under the influence following a car crash in Florida.
Golf legend Tiger Woods has been released on bail following his arrest on charges of driving under the influence after rolling his car in a crash in Florida.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office said the 15-time major champion was also charged with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Woods, 50, rolled his Land Rover after clipping a truck in Jupiter Island on Friday afternoon, according to Sheriff John Budensiek, who said officers had not suspected him of impairment by alcohol but possibly by an unknown substance.
Woods, who had to crawl out of the passenger door, passed a breathalyser test after the crash before refusing a urine test. No-one was injured.
He was kept in jail for eight hours - the minimum allowed under state law - before being released on bail.
Budensiek said the crash happened after Woods allegedly attempted to overtake a pressure cleaner truck at a "high rate of speed".
DUI investigators came to the scene and "Mr Woods did exemplify signs of impairment", Budensiek said.
"They did several tests on him," Budensiek said. "He did explain the injuries and surgeries that he's had and we did take that into account, but they did some in-depth roadside tests."
Woods was placed under arrest after the incident, which took place on Beach Road just before 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
Budensiek said investigators at the scene and at jail were "really not suspicious of alcohol being involved" and Woods passed a breathalyser test with "triple zeros".
Budensiek said Woods was "co-operative but was trying not to incriminate himself".
"He has a right to refuse that test," Budensiek said.
"There is a statute which he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash."
US President Donald Trump said: "I feel so badly. He has got some difficulty. There was an accident. That's all I know.
"He's a very close friend of mine. He's an amazing person - an amazing man."
The charges against Woods are misdemeanours, not felonies.
The BBC has contacted his representatives for comment.
More trouble for Woods
Woods has played a limited schedule since the serious car crash in 2021 that left him with extensive injuries and fortunate to be alive.
In 2009 he hit a fire hydrant, a tree and several hedges in a bizarre collision outside his home.
The incident sparked accusations of extramarital affairs which led to the end of his seven-year marriage and the loss of lucrative sponsorship deals.
In 2017 police officers found Woods slumped at the wheel of his parked Mercedes-Benz not far from his Florida home.
A toxicology report found he had several legal medications in his system and marijuana's active ingredient.
He was sentenced to a year's probation after pleading guilty to reckless driving.
Another setback to Woods' comeback plans?
Woods has been recovering from rupturing an Achilles tendon in March 2025 and back surgery in October.
This week he competed in the TGL indoor league finals - his first competitive golf for more than a year - and had not ruled out playing in next month's Masters, a tournament he has a huge affinity for.
Woods has triumphed five times at Augusta National, which was the scene of his first major title in 1997 and his most recent in 2019.
That victory was arguably his greatest achievement in golf given the number of injuries he had to overcome.
However, the sight of him grittily limping through four rounds on that same course in 2022, 14 months after a life-threatening crash, also lives long in the memory.
Woods, whose 82 career wins are level with Sam Snead for the PGA Tour record, has not competed at a major since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024.
He last made the cut at the 2024 Masters, where he finished 60th.
'Playing in Masters looks increasingly unlikely'
This is another huge setback for one of the all-time great sporting figures, who has suffered massive injury problems for the best part of two decades.
Woods is battling to be fit for the Masters, which starts in less than two weeks.
We saw him hitting golf shots competitively in the indoor TGL league at the start of this week - that was the first time since July 2024 we had seen him playing golf.
He did not seem overly optimistic that he would be fit, but he was really trying to be at Augusta for the Masters.
That looks ever more unlikely given the scenario that is playing out in Florida.

One of the flagship No Kings rallies happened in Minnesota, where singer Bruce Springsteen preformed to crowds.
No Kings protests draw large crowds to rally against Donald Trump
Large protests against the Trump administration have taken place in cities across the US, marking the third iteration of No Kings rallies.
Event organisers for Saturday's protests estimate more than 8 million people attended to protest policies imposed by US President Donald Trump, and things like the Iran war, immigration enforcement and the rising cost of living.
"Trump wants to rule over us as a tyrant. But this is America, and power belongs to the people - not to wannabe kings or their billionaire cronies," organisers said.
A White House spokesperson called the protests "Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions" and said the only people who care "are the reporters who are paid to cover them".
The BBC is unable to verify attendance figures by organisers. Previous No Kings protests have similarly been estimated in the millions.
Throughout the day on Saturday, demonstrations took place in nearly every major US city. Crowds also gathered in smaller cities and towns across the country - and also in areas outside the US, like Paris and London.
Rallies took over the streets of downtown Washington DC throughout the afternoon, with throngs of people marching through the nation's capital. Protesters lined the steps of the the Lincoln Memorial and packed the National Mall.
One of the flagship No Kings protests on Saturday took place in Minnesota, where two American citizens - Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti - were killed by federal immigration agents in January. Their deaths sparked outrage and nationwide protests against the Trump administration's immigration tactics.
Thousands on Saturday filled the streets with signs and a plethora of high-profile Democrats also took a stage outside the State Capitol building in St Paul.
Bruce Springsteen also took the stage and performed his anti-immigration enforcement song titled, "Streets of Minneapolis".
Thousands also crowded New York City's Times Square, marching through Manhattan's Midtown neighbourhood. Police had to shut down the normally busy streets to make way for crowds.
Actor and director Robert De Niro, who attended the protest in New York City, told the BBC's Tom Brook that he felt it was imperative to get out and protest against Trump.
"I think more people are starting to see that with this guy, it gets worse and worse and worse every day," De Niro said of Trump. "Now we're in a war. The next thing is, what he'll do is put put troops on the ground. He's crazy."
De Niro added: "It's that simple, and we have to stand up to him, to the regime, fight it with everything. We just got to fight, you know, peacefully, but we have to resist. We have to. We have no choice."
Trump has often clashed with De Niro during his political career, last month calling the high-profile actor "a sick and demented person" with "an extremely Low IQ".
De Niro "has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying — some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!" Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.
At the last No Kings protest in October, the New York Police Department said more than 100,000 people had gathered across all five of the city's boroughs.
The protests weren't without incident. In Los Angeles, two people were arrested for assaulting federal law enforcement, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In a statement to X, it said that two officers had been hit with the cement blocks and were receiving medical care, after a group of what it described as "1,000 rioters" surrounded the Roybal Federal Building and began throwing things at DHS agents.
Elsewhere in the city, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said "multiple arrests" had been made after protesters did not obey dispersal orders in an area near a federal prison.
Police confirmed that federal authorities used "non-lethal measures" to move crowds in the area, after warning protesters not to "attempt to tear down the gate and not throw items".
Reuters reported that arrests were also made in Dallas, after "minor scuffles erupted" when counter-protesters blocked streets and disrupted the No Kings march.
American expats abroad also gathered for protests in cities such as Paris, London and Lisbon.
Saturday's estimated total of over 8 million protesters beats out the last No Kings rally in October, which estimates said drew crowds of nearly seven million people.
Several US states mobilised the National Guard, but organisers have maintained that the events are peaceful.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has expanded the scope of presidential power, using executive orders to dismantle parts of the federal government and deploying National Guard troops to US cities despite objections by state governors.
The president has also called on the administration's top law enforcement officials to prosecute his perceived political enemies.
The president says his actions are necessary to rebuild a country in crisis and has dismissed

The Israeli military confirms it killed Ali Shoeib from the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Manar TV.
Three Lebanese journalists killed in Israeli strike, say broadcasters
Three Lebanese journalists were killed in a targeted Israeli strike in southern Lebanon on Saturday, their employers have said.
Ali Shoeib, a reporter for Hezbollah-affiliated Al Manar TV, and reporter Fatima Ftouni and her brother, cameraman Mohamed Ftouni, both from Al Mayadeen channel, were killed in the town of Jezzine, according to the stations.
The strike reportedly hit their car just before noon (10:00 GMT).
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it killed Shoeib and Mohamed Ftouni, describing them as "terrorists" from Hezbollah's military wing. It said they both operated "under the guise" of journalists. It also said it was aware of reports a female journalist was killed.
The IDF said Shoeib had worked to "expose the locations of IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon and along the border", including during the current fighting, and had used his position "to disseminate Hezbollah propaganda materials".
The IDF provided no evidence to support its claim that Shoeib, whom it said belonged to Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force, and Mohamed Ftouni had military roles.
It said the IDF "directs its strikes to target terrorists, and not journalists, and is operating to mitigate harm to civilians as much as possible".
Hezbollah denounced the strike as the "deliberate criminal targeting of journalists".
"The enemy's false claims are nothing but an expression of its weakness and fragility, and a desperate attempt to evade responsibility for this crime," the group said in a statement on Telegram.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described it as a "brazen crime" that broke the "most basic rules" of international law by targeting reporters, "who are ultimately civilians performing a professional duty".
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam likewise condemned the attack in a statement on X, branding it a "flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a clear breach of the rules that guarantee the protection of journalists in times of war".
Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said the strike was "clearly a targeted assassination" and an attempt to "silence the voices of truth-tellers".
This is the second time Israel has been accused of targeting journalists in Lebanon since the US-Israel war against Iran began a month ago.
On 18 March, Al Manar reported its presenter Mohammad Sherri and his wife had been killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut while they were sleeping.
Responding to Saturday's strike, the Committee to Protect Journalists said Lebanon had become "an increasingly deadly zone for journalists".
"We have seen a disturbing pattern in this war and in the decades prior of Israel accusing journalists of being active combatants and terrorists without providing credible evidence," the US-based organisation's regional director Sara Qudah said.
"Journalists are not legitimate targets, regardless of the outlet they work for."
More than 1,100 civilians, including 120 children and 42 paramedics, have been killed in Lebanon during the conflict so far, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
More than a million people have also been displaced, worsening an existing humanitarian crisis in the country.
Many in Lebanon are worried Israel is using similar tactics it has been accused of deploying in Gaza - including the deliberate targeting of civilians, journalists and paramedics, which Israel denies.
Israel and Hezbollah had agreed a ceasefire in November 2024, under which both sides were meant to leave their positions in the south.
Progress was made, but it was partial. Israel maintained several military posts in the south and continued to carry out regular attacks on what it said were Hezbollah targets, accusing the group of trying to rearm and rebuild its presence.
After the killing of Iran's supreme leader at the beginning of the current conflict, Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel in retaliation - both for his death and Israeli attacks since the ceasefire.
Israel has since escalated its operations in the region, saying its aim was to protect communities in northern Israel from attacks by Hezbollah militants.

2026.3.23
Breaking
Changes
- ModelStudio/Qwen: add standard (pay-as-you-go) DashScope endpoints for China and global Qwen API keys alongside the existing Coding Plan endpoints, and relabel the provider group to
Qwen (Alibaba Cloud Model Studio)
. (#43878) - UI/clarity: consolidate button primitives (
btn--icon
,btn--ghost
,btn--xs
), refine the Knot theme to a black-and-red palette with WCAG 2.1 AA contrast, add config icons for Diagnostics/CLI/Secrets/ACP/MCP sections, replace the roundness slider with discrete stops, and improve accessibility with aria-labels across usage filters. (#53272) Thanks @BunsDev. - CSP/Control UI: compute SHA-256 hashes for inline
<script>
blocks in the servedindex.html
and include them in thescript-src
CSP directive, keeping inline scripts blocked by default while allowing explicitly hashed bootstrap code. (#53307) Thanks @BunsDev.
Fixes
- Plugins/bundled runtimes: ship bundled plugin runtime sidecars like WhatsApp
light-runtime-api.js
, Matrixruntime-api.js
, and other plugin runtime entry files in the npm package again, so global installs stop failing on missing bundled plugin runtime surfaces. - CLI/channel auth: auto-select the single configured login-capable channel for
channels login
/logout
, harden channel ids against prototype-chain and control-character abuse, and fall back cleanly to catalog-backed channel installs, so channel auth works again for single-channel setups and on-demand channel installs. (#53254) Thanks @BunsDev. - Auth/OpenAI tokens: stop live gateway auth-profile writes from reverting freshly saved credentials back to stale in-memory values, and make
models auth paste-token
write to the resolved agent store, so Configure, Onboard, and token-paste flows stop snapping back to expired OpenAI tokens. Fixes #53207. Related to #45516. - Control UI/auth: preserve operator scopes through the device-auth bypass path, ignore cached under-scoped operator tokens, and show a clear
operator.read
fallback message when a connection really lacks read scope, so operator sessions stop failing or blanking on read-backed pages. (#53110) Thanks @BunsDev. - Plugins/ClawHub: resolve plugin API compatibility against the active runtime version at install time, and add regression coverage for current

ClawHub package checks so installs no longer fail behind the stale1.2.0
constant. (#53157) Thanks @futhgar. - Plugins/uninstall: accept installed
clawhub:
specs and versionless ClawHub package names as uninstall targets, soopenclaw plugins uninstall clawhub:<package>
works again even when the recorded install was pinned to a version. - Browser/Chrome MCP: wait for existing-session browser tabs to become usable after attach instead of treating the initial Chrome MCP handshake as ready, which reduces user-profile timeouts and repeated consent churn on macOS Chrome attach flows. Fixes #52930. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Browser/CDP: reuse an already-running loopback browser after a short initial reachability miss instead of immediately falling back to relaunch detection, which fixes second-run browser start/open regressions on slower headless Linux setups. Fixes #53004. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Agents/web_search: use the active runtime
web_search
provider instead of stale/default selection, so agent turns keep hitting the provider you actually configured. Fixes #53020. Thanks @jzakirov. - Mistral/models: lower bundled Mistral max-token defaults to safe output budgets and teach
openclaw doctor --fix
to repair old persisted Mistral provider configs that still carry context-sized output limits, avoiding deterministic Mistral 422 rejects on fresh and existing setups. Fixes #52599. Thanks @vincentkoc. - ClawHub/macOS auth: honor macOS auth config and XDG auth paths for saved ClawHub credentials, so
openclaw skills ...
and gateway skill browsing keep using the signed-in auth state instead of silently falling back to unauthenticated mode. Fixes #53034. - ClawHub/macOS: read the local ClawHub login from the macOS Application Support path and still honor XDG config on macOS, so skill browsing uses the logged-in token on both default and XDG-style setups. Fixes #52949. Thanks @scoootscooob.
- ClawHub/skills: resolve the local ClawHub auth token for gateway skill browsing and switch browse-all requests to search so ClawControl stops falling into unauthenticated 429s and empty authenticated skill lists. Fixes #52949. Thanks @vincentkoc.
- Config/warnings: suppress the confusing “newer OpenClaw” warning when a config written by a same-base correction release like

is read by2026.3.23
, while still warning for truly newer or incompatible versions. - CLI/cron: make

openclaw onboard --install-daemon
OpenClaw Onboard installs the Gateway daemon (launchd/systemd user service) so it stays running.
Runtime: Node 24 (recommended) or Node 22.16+.
Full beginner guide (auth, pairing, channels): Getting started
openclaw onboard --install-daemon
openclaw gateway --port 18789 --verbose

Upgrading? Updating guide (and run openclaw doctor
).
- stable: tagged releases (
vYYYY.M.D
orvYYYY.M.D-<patch>
), npm dist-taglatest
. - beta: prerelease tags (
vYYYY.M.D-beta.N
), npm dist-tagbeta
(macOS app may be missing). - dev: moving head of
main
, npm dist-tagdev
(when published).
Switch channels (git + npm): openclaw update --channel stable|beta|dev
.
Details: Development channels.
Prefer pnpm
for builds from source. Bun is optional for running TypeScript directly.
git clone https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw.git
cd openclaw
pnpm install
pnpm ui:build # auto-installs UI deps on first run
pnpm build
pnpm openclaw onboard --install-daemon
# Dev loop (auto-reload on source/config changes)
pnpm gateway:watch
Note: pnpm openclaw ...
runs TypeScript directly (via tsx
). pnpm build
produces dist/
for running via Node / the packaged openclaw
binary.
OpenClaw connects to real messaging surfaces. Treat inbound DMs as untrusted input.
Full security guide: Security
Default behavior on Telegram/WhatsApp/Signal/iMessage/Microsoft Teams/Discord/Google Chat/Slack:
- DM pairing (
dmPolicy="pairing"
/channels.discord.dmPolicy="pairing"
/channels.slack.dmPolicy="pairing"
; legacy:channels.discord.dm.policy
,channels.slack.dm.policy
): unknown senders receive a short pairing code and the bot does not process their message. - Approve with:
openclaw pairing approve <channel> <code>
(then the sender is added to a local allowlist store). - Public inbound DMs require an explicit opt-in: set
dmPolicy="open"
and include"*"
in the channel allowlist (allowFrom
/channels.discord.allowFrom
/channels.slack.allowFrom
; legacy:channels.discord.dm.allowFrom
,channels.slack.dm.allowFrom
).
Run openclaw doctor
to surface risky/misconfigured DM policies.
